Step inside to explore the interior world of Magenta House.
Magenta House is an artist-led space for gathering and knowledge sharing. Nestled inside a re-envisioned micro-terrace in East Redfern on Gadigal Country / Sydney, Australia, our programs interweave creativity, food, domesticity, and social magic. We look at the ways that creative hospitality, co-learning and intimate assemblies can embolden our ways of navigating the wider world together. Primarily, Magenta House is a synergetic platform for ideas and conversations to ferment through encounters and communal reciprocity.
In this spirit, we self-organise and collaborate with kindreds to dream up culturally-vital workshops, supper clubs, communal meals, test kitchens, creative dialogues, soirées, library sessions, and more. We also run an online shop supporting social ventures and independent artisans across Asia and Australia.

About this Newsletter
For the past two years, we’ve had the privilege and joy of convening with kindreds, neighbours, and strangers to share meals, art, stories, books, recipes, languages, music, life advice, creative incantations, dance moves, and more. As we dive into 2025, we wanted to carve out time to reflect on the transfixing and generative moments so far, and to share learnings and musings that might be of interest to participants and cultural kins here and afar. Equally as prescient, we want to spotlight our constellations of collaborators and supporters, alongside creating an archival pot for memory-making and purpose-steered experiences.
Enter Magenta Digests! Launched in April 2025, this newsletter is authored by Mariam Ella Arcilla and follows the creative odyssey of running Magenta House. Our dispatch will feature insights into our projects; previews of upcoming programs; and convos with luminaries and collaborators; and personal reflections. Much like a tasting menu, our journal will be sliced into the following sections and topics below; this will alternate depending on what’s on and the size of our energetic platter:
House Notes: top-note updates on Magenta House, including announcements, FYIs, and things of interest to visitors.
Next Serve: what’s coming up at Magenta House, including event launches, and previews on upcoming projects.
Aftertase: learnings and reflections of previous programs and collaborations.
Taste buds: a spotlight on our creative partners and collaborators at Magenta House (launching July).
Share Plates: a knowledge-sharing listicle of industry opportunities and resources for creatives and culture workers in Australia and globally.
How do I stay in the loop?
Easy! Simply subscribe here (free and paid) to get full access to our journal and evolving publication archives. At this point, we’ll post entries every 2 weeks. You can also visit our website and follow us on Insta.
Why be a paid subscriber?
Our homespace programs are voluntarily-run and we don’t receive funding assistance. Substack subscriptions help Magenta House to sustain our work. Paid subscribers get access to exclusive content, including recipes, priority booking slots and early-access tickets, discounts at the Magenta House Shop, and invites to industry networking events.
About the Housekeepers
Magenta House was established in April 2023 by Mariam Ella Arcilla, who manages operations, programs, partnerships, shop/library visits, and content, while Mason Kimber offers logistical support. Mariam & Mason are soulmates whose combined careers in public programming, education, arts management, curating, and grassroots organising help inspired Magenta’s germination. We live in onsite and run Magenta on the ground level. You can find out more about us via @marzigold and @masonkimber.
House Notes for June:
Magenta House is taking a month-long program break in June 2025 to return to the Philippines for personal leave. Magenta House Shop will continue to operate and ship online. Items purchased between 13-26 June will be shipped after 27 June. Thanks for understanding!
Public programs and Shop visits/pick-ups will resume from early July. Library visits will resume from early July, with priority spots available to newsletter subscribers. Over the course of the year, we’ll also spotlight newly-added and most-perused publications, as picked by our readers. Doggy-ear bonanzas await!
We hope you enjoy Magenta Digests! Thank you for following our journey!
Magenta House rests on the unceded lands of the Gadigal people of the Eora Nation. We pay our respects to the Traditional Owners of the multiple nations that we create, converse, and travel through. Through our practices, we remain indebted to First Nations peoples and recognise Redfern's significant history as an Aboriginal epicentre for social communion, activism, education, and creative expression.
